"Brian's winter is a great book for chrildren adults and elsders it is fun to read because of the story of how he gets lost on an island with animals and more dangerous things, like bears, and wolves witch are also animals but they can eat him. I think this book is good because i have heard about it and seen, and everything else about this book. i think it is good because of how his jurney begins and ends it is so interesting listeng to it."
"more survivals for me! this book wasnt as fun as the first one - the book seemed less immediate than hatchet. maybe because of the way it was presented; as a "what if", rather than a regular story, the stakes seem lower, even though it is exactly the same. its more like a writers exercise than a proper story. or maybe i am reading too many woodsy type books too closely together. i will pause now and get on with my summer of classix. teeny books, get thee behind me!"
"This is the sequel to Hatchet. In Hatchet, Brian is stranded in Northern Canada after a plane crash. He is alone as the pilot dies in the crash. In Hatchet, Brian was rescued at the end of the summer, but in Brian's Winter, Paulsen considers what would happen if Brian has to deal with winter. Brian's Winter is a great adventure story. I know that I couldn't wait to see what would happen next."
"My youngest bought home this book to read from his school library, and we started reading it. Unfortunately neither one of us got to finish it as he had to bring it back since it's the end of the school year. We plan on taking this out at our city's library when they reopen their doors at their new facility in a couple of weeks.
I purchased the book in mint condition at the library's annual book sale that I volunteered at for three mornings. Wasn't I surprised that I came across it and in such good condition, after all there were 100,000 books there and I wasn't looking for it - yippee for Tristan and me! Tristan and I read the book. It was great! There were certain parts in the story like when Brian was cutting apart the moose and the deer that were pretty gross, but he needed to do that to survive, but I kept thinking, would I be able stomach that doing it myself if I was in such a situation? There were also funny parts like when the porcupine would want food and hold up his tail and then Brian would give him some meat and the porcupine would walk away and return the next day to do the same thing. It was also educational. When Brian thought he heard gun shots only to discover that it was tree splitting because of the cold, I didn't know that and I was also relieved because I wasn't quite ready for Brian's adventures to be just over. I really liked how Gary Paulsen ended the story; how Brian was rescued. I look forward to reading more of Gary Paulsen's book. My oldest son, James, read most of his books when he was in elementary school; now I'm hooked!"
