About this title: Bestselling romance author and ardent knitter Debbie Macomber combines both her skills in this novel about a newly opened Seattle yarn shop and the knitting class that brings four women together to make baby blankets. The owner of the shop and her three students produce more than blankets, knitting together bonds of solidarity, friendship, love, hope, and renewal. The book even includes the pattern for the blanket, which was created by premier knitting designer Ann Norling.

"Lydia Hoffman has opened up a yarn shop on Blossom Street. She wants to affirm her life now that she is cancer-free. In order to gain some business Lydia offers beginners a lesson on "Knitting a Baby Blanket". Three ladies show up.
Jacqueline who is a high society snob dislikes her daughter-in-law and now finds out she is to be a grandma. This blanket will show 'good faith'.
Carol who has been through two IVFs is about to begin another set which will be her last. She believes this is a sign of a pregnancy without mishaps.
Alix who was caught with her roomie's drugs will do this for community service. Maybe knitting is a way to control her anger.
Each of the ladies is completely different and they end up learning about themselves and forming deep friendships."
"Loved this book and can't wait to read somemore by this author. Quick easy read that allowed you to get to know the characters through devoted chapters to each one while seeing how they interact. Lydia opens a yarn shop to symbolize that she is ready to live life rather than let the scare of cancer make her parolized to take chances. She meets some interesting people in her beginners knitting class: Alix, a twenty something, hard lessoned learned girl who works at the video store down the street and joins to fill her court ordered community service hours. Jaqualine, who is rich in money only and not satisfied with her thought to be cheating husband and her less than desirable daughter-in-law. Carol, the IVF want to be mother, who is on her last shot for a biological child. The unlikely friends share their joys and sorrows over knitting classes and learn great lessons."
"The Shop on Blossom Street is a first in the Blossom series, and the first book I've ever read (in this case listen to) by this author. I chose this author because I wanted sometime relaxing to listen to in bed. This one hit the spot.
Read by Linda Emond who does a great job with the four characters in this story. Four very different characters become friends while taking a knitting class at (you guessed it) The Shop on Blossom Street. For Lydia, the shop's owner, a two-time cancer survivor, the shop represents a new beginning.
The first project is : how to knit a baby blanket. The participants in the class are struggling with various personal issues: cancer, divorce, miscarriage etc, and from each other they learn how to accept life's setbacks and find happiness in their lives once again.
I was happy I tried this book. A light read, nothing too depressing or heavy, this book turned out to be a good listen well into the wee hours of the morning on some nights."
"I read this because I knit and will read anything that has to do with knitting. (Obsessed much? Who me?) It is the story of four stereotypes women who have nothing in common but bond in a knitting shop making the same baby blanket for different reasons.
The shops owner is Lydia and she opened the store because she fought Cancer and realized you have to live life while you have it. Jacqueline is the snobby older woman who is judgemental and cold because her marriage is a hollowed out shell. Carol is the baby obsessed woman who can't conceive. And finally to round out this lovely little group is Alix - you can tell by her name she is the tough chick who was ordered to knit a baby blanket for community service. (Really? Knitting for community service?!?! How cool would that be?)
Every time I think of this book I can't help but remember the episode of Family Guy called Chick Cancer where Lois and Peter go to a chickflick called Autumn's Piano and when the girls in the movie are introduced their names are Sassy, Pouty and Suicidey. My point being that you know what is going to happen to everyone in the book in chapter one - this is not a book of surprises. And honestly it got a little dull here and there. So much so that even though it is about knitting and I know there is a sequel (I might even own the sequel?) I haven't been able to make myself read it. Maybe I will get the second one on Audio book."
