About this title: This is the classic story of friendship between man and beast. Saved from the jaws of the evil tiger Shere Khan, young Mowgli is adopted by a wolf pack and taught the law of the jungle by lovable old Baloo the bear and Bhageera the panther. The adventures of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the snake-fighting mongoose, little Toomai and the elephant's secret dance, and Kotick the white seal are all part of Mowgli's extraordinary journey with his animal friends.

"So far this book is great. It tells many differnt stories. It starts up about the classic tail of Mowgli the jungle boy, then it tells another story, then more of Mowgli, and the pattern continues. i love the book alot except i'm in the midst of one of the only bad stories in there it is about snow dogs. I think everybody should read this it is a classic but with the old language and the way he wrote it can be hard to follow."
"Really interesting, and well read, but. . . . like the mighty jungle cat, my mind couldn't stop wandering. . . .
I found it easier to get into the First Jungle Book than The Second Jungle Book (or as I like to call it, "The Empire Strikes Back"), but it could just be that I'd reached my limit of the regal talking animals.
I will say that i read the Oxford World's Classics edition, and there were quite a few editorial mistakes. Now, I'm no spellmeister, so if the errors become a distraction to ME, that means they're pretty bad. If you're craving some Kipling, , , maybe go with a different edition.
"It shows how fantasy is truly based on imagination and creativity. The stories are so vividly told that it is applicable to both children and adults which is magnificent. Truly timeless and shows that the animal kingdom too has societies and laws that creates balance and stability all throughout the jungle. This book also points out that animals indeed learn and think such as Kotick the white seal. Rudyard Kipling made the animals sort of human in a way with the stories told in this book and it truly brings out the wonder that we all have about nature and its animals."
"Another example of why this series is so good. Not only is Kipling's The Jungle Book reduced to three of the stories from the series "Mowgli's Brothers," "The King's Ankus," and "Red Dog" (in order to move the focus towards Mowgli's character but also to show different stages of Mowgli's development), but it also gives unbiased and critical commentary about Kipling and his work. Feeley openly acknowledges Kipling's prejudiced politics and the ebbs and flows of Kipling's reception of his work (based on said political leanings). He also gives additional excerpts that were excluded from the dialog pieces included in this abridged version as well as a better look at the overall layout of the original two books as they were first published.
This would serve as a good introduction for younger readers to Kipling's work, as it gives reasons for why it should be lauded as well as where its downfalls are."
