"International Book This is a picture book that talks about the desegregation of public schools in the eyes of black children. I think this would be a great book to read to lower grades to teach this topic!"
"Powerful photographs and text--very thought provoking. Hopefully we have made more progress with acceptance and equality than when these photos were taken"
"This short book is full of photos depicting the inspiring but painful fight for school segregation. I cringed at some of the hateful, violent faces of the anti-integration mob. Makes me ashamed to be human to know that grown men and women would scream at and taunt small children who just want to learn to read and write in a safe and equal setting. Just nauseating."
"The pictures in this book are absolutely moving. I felt angry at the white people in these pictures. How could they be filled with so much anger? Honestly, it made me realize the power of what we teach our children. Prejudices are passed from generation to generation. I was moved to tears by some of these pictures. What a strong group of people those blacks were how first integrated educationally into the "white" schools."
