"Ben Mikaelsen's Touching Spirit Bear touched my heart.
First of all, everything in Cole Matthews life is a circle. At the age of fifteen he is already a juvenile delinquent. His parents are strong alcoholics and his dad is a child molester. He hurts Cole almost every night. One day, Cole has enough and takes his anger out on poor Peter Driscal. He takes his head and smashes it into the sidewalk.
Next, for his punishment, he goes to an island in Alaska and has to stay for a year. Cole tries to escape several times, but always fails. When he spots the Spirit Bear, he hates it for not being afraid of him.
Finally, after getting a second change to stay on the island, Cole must find a way to help Peter. Peter stays on the island with him. He soaks in the river and carrys the ancestor rock up the hill just like Cole does.
In conclusion, a good theme for this book would be hands and words are not for hurting. You should never bully or tease anyone. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to any high school student."
""Whatever you do to the animals, you do to yourself. Remember that." The book I read was, Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen. The main character, Cole Matthews, has nothing but pure anger inside him and now he is going to have to pay for it. The punishment for beating up one of the kids at his school is extremly harsh. Cole will either choose to be in prison or to join a group for troubled teens. Cole chooses the group for troubled teens which is called Circle Justice. He meets a man, Garvey, that is from Circle Justice and he decides his punishment. Garvey decides to send him to an isolated island in Alaska where Cole will be attacked by a mysterious white bear that nearly murders him and from there, he will decide if the spirit bear will kill him or save his life. Can this mythical bear help Cole beyond human reach? This book is filled with excitement and keeps you wanting to read more. I recommend this book to everyone. It is a good read and it keeps you on your toes."
"Have you ever seen or touched a spirit bear?????????? Well in the book Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikealsen it's a book about a kid that has a problems staying out of trouble. After a beating a kid and putting him in a wheel chair he was given a choice of either going to jail or get sent to an island for a whole year by his self. So he chooses to go to the island. When he gets to the island he throws a fit and tears down the shelter and throws all the food that he was give to survive for the whole year out in the water and begins to destroy everything In sight. The bad part is that a bad storm that comes that night and washes everything away so he is left with nothing. So he has to learn how to start from scratch all over again. He goes through many trials and errors and then he meets the spirit bear. His life is changed is forever because of this encounter. You need to read this book to see what happened and why this spirit bear is so important and see if he can make it through the whole year without dying."
"My review for this book. Touching spirit bear is a great book it is about a juvenal teenager who gets in many problems. One day their parents had to take him to court a recieved guilty charges. they took him to this center were all the bad teenagers were, then out of no wear they abondan him in this island and finding himself fighting the wilderness. He later runs in to a white bear, fighting the bear he gets his arm ripped and his ribs crused, he losses himself and faints. Later he wakes up damaged and helpless he needed food so he eats bugs. Later threw the weeks he starts missing the people he hated and loved. for example one time he beat up this kid and sewed him. one day they met in a room his parents the boy he hurt and the boys parents. they all met discussed about letting him free or more consequences. later on they might forgive him but maybe suffer like he made the boy suffer. I wont say the ending so find out and give me comments. i swear you will like this book. but if you do not like bad language and bone crushing scenes be cuation"
