"A good intro to Islam in Africa. The author intended it for undergrads, but this old grad learned plenty from it. It does have some elementary stuff on Muhammad and the 5 pillars, but it also takes various case studies (the Mahdi in the Sudan, the Murids in Senegal, etc.) and puts them in the context of larger trends of conversion and practice. A good read."
