"In the hot summer of Toronto, Duncan sits at his dead end job in the subway transit lost and found division. The author of this book, Graham McNamee has also written, Hate You, Nothing Wrong With A Three Legged Dog, and Sparks. In Acceleration, he finds a journal full of plans from a serial killer, who calls 'Roach' who plans on raping and killing three women. Duncan decides to try and track 'Roach' down by using his own journal against him. What would you do if you had found this freak's journal? I liked how intense and captivating this book was. It was hard to put down at times. I rate it 5/5. Acceleration one of the first books that I have had to read for school and actually enjoyed. This is a great read, and has you asking questions that you never know the answers to until the very end.
"This book was alright. I liked it, but it wasn't the best. Although, it wasn't my favorite. I've always enjoyed mystery books, but this one seemed to be more about the main character working and spending time with his friends then solving the mystery. Graham McNamee has a sense of humor in his writing that is enjoyable, but I think he's using more humor that needed in his mystery books. The suspense when he discovered the killer was alright, but he seemed to jump into it to quickly. The suspense only seemed to last about 3-4 pages, so it was a little dissapointing after reading more than half a book about his job and friends, then reading about the mystery. This book is worth reading, but you should have an acquired taste for his style of writing."
"I'm undecided about this book, which is frustrating to me as a reader.
Duncan is working for the Toronto subway's lost and found for the summer. Among all the lost, he finds a journal, a very frightening one. The writer of this journal is a young man who has, over time, been violent and killed small animals, moved on to starting fires, and the most recent entries show that he is interested in killing young women, and has several candidates in mind. Duncan finds this very scary, but fascinating, and decides to try and do something about it. Will he get to the victims in time to warn them? Should he tell the police? Or take on the villian himself?
This is definitely the story of a young man who wants to be a hero.
This book was also the winner of the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Young Adult Mystery Novel in 2004."
