"O.K. I know, this is a cookbook. But it's really more than that. Reading and tasting these recipies are as close to experiencing the culture of Italy/Croatia as you will get without actually going there. This is the only cookbook I've ever read cover to cover. And even though I will probably never cure my own ham (Curing Prosciutto, pg 194.) the recipies I have tried have all been excellent. In an interview on a local radio program, Lidia shared her favorite dish to eat alone, and it has also become one of my favorites: Lightly fry some spaghetti noodles in a little olive oil and garlic and serve with a glass of Chianti. Amazing in it's simplicity and yet good enough to make your eyes roll back; and even though you won't find that recipie in here, she brings that kind of common sence approach to cooking that focuses on flavors instead of complexity."
