About this title: The celebrated Alan Dershowitz, professor of law at Harvard, writes a passionate brief in defense of Israel, seeking to reclaim legitimacy for the Jewish state and its right to defend its borders. In the process, he tries to sort out the thorny differences between legitimate criticism and anti-Semitism.

"I read this book basically to test out if it was a book I could give my friends. I want a good book that explains a lot of the history of the middle east and Israel, because I think that's sorely lacking from today's discussion of what political move should be next.
unfortunately, my verdict on this book is: lots of really good info, and a good job not conflating arugments about history w/ arguments about "therefore the US should do X," but fundamentally really (!) poorly argued. Like, REALLY poorly argued, to the extent that I, who agree with basically all of the content of his arguments, had a lot of trouble refraining from picking a fight w/ the book.
"I picked up this book for research since it pertains to my topic for exhibition. The book was great for looking for necessary information and was organized in such a great way, which made my life so much easier! Each chapter poses a question and shows the Israeli's side on the situation. My research topic pertains to Israel and Palestine's outlook on the conflict and how they have tried to create a solution to the affair. I would not pick up this book if it wasn't for my exhibition but it was really interesting to read how each side feels about the situation. The book also really helped me decide on my question because each chapter focuses on a specific question and the answer really goes into detail showing evidence, backing up the reason for the answer. A lot of the evidence will be used in my paper!"
"It is sad that a book has had to be written to defend Israel's right to exist, but sadly that's the world we live in now. Dershowitz defends Israel, as one would in an international court, against 32 'charges' against it, and does so convincingly simply by conveying historial facts and figures. It was good to see that Dershowitz did not rely on pro-Israeli sourses to back up his arguments, rather he used neutral, and often pro-Palestinian sorces to ensure that his facts were not tainted by bias."
"I think I must have been reading the wrong book. I'm looking for something that will help me understand Israel's need to exist explicitly as a Jewish state, rather than a secular one, as well as a general discussion of Israel and the complexities of that nation's politics and history (hahaha - I get that doesn't all fit into one book). This book's list of accusations against Israel and accompanying counter-arguments didn't help me with this issue. Any advice?"
