"The lesson I learned from this book is that we must not follow our country's leaders blindly, even if we believe they have our best interest at heart. Know what they stand for and watch that they are not changing directions midway or going back on their campaign promises. When one becomes a leader it is easy to become corrupted, entitled, prideful and lazy, even if one starts off with the welfare of the people in mind. Good leaders are worth their weight in gold.
This is an interesting story. I actually listened to it on tape while I was driving to Utah. It gave me a wake up call to be more diligent about protecting my freedoms and take a more active interest in what direction our country's leaders are headed. If we become complacent we might wake up one day and find that our freedom has perished."
"This book, besides possibly draining I.Q. points from the reader, and worsening whatever vision problems you may already have, is an wanton waste of life time. In my estimation, political and social symbolism accounted for, "Animal Farm" has a plot surpassed by the dictionary, a character development rating of negative one billion, and a redundancy surpassed by none other, an impressive feat, for sure. If my comments offend, please attribute it to simple mindedness, poor brain functioning, or lack of respect for great literature, and, in truth, it brings up some important points, just, to my brain's perception, in the most boring way possible."
"Its quite unique how he portrays his characters as animals. And its often hilarious. But once again...hes a socialist...this is what he wants...why does he trash it here but fight for it in real life? But I have to thank him just like I did for 1984 for making a great book explaining the pitfalls of socialism.
Overall: Storyline is funny yet serious. You hate pigs more after your done. You realize that George Orwell is a hypocrite. Read it and feel great we aren't to this point...yet."
"Animal farm is the story about a group of farm animals that take over a farm and run the farm the way they feel a real farm should be ran; By animals.
Old Major is the head of the Animals on the farm and gathers them about a dream he had. He tells the Animals about his dream and his new philosophy of Animalism of how Animals are slaves to humans and should rise up and take over. Three days later old Major dies and the Animals decided to do as old Major had told them and take over the farm as a team.
The Pigs claim to be the smartest and therefore the most important as well as having the most power. After chasing away the farmer and gaining control over the farm the animals begin spreading the word of the new way of living for Animals. The farm experiences lots of problems and even some deaths but the biggest Problem is the struggle for power.
The Pigs are the leader and the other Animals are the followers, just as there are in every society. The Pigs in Animal farm show that power can never be equally shared because of a variety of different opinions on how the power should be used. Snowball and Napoleon struggle over power because both realize the one with the most power gets the most benefits. The Pigs give the other Animals excuses on why they get things the other animals don't, saying that they are the smartest and need the most food.
As time on the farm goes by the Pig become more and more human like. The Animalism Rules that are written on the barn wall get changed as the Pigs change their Animal behaviors. Drinking alcohol, walking upright, and wearing clothes show how the power corrupted the Pigs into becoming Human leaders.
Looking though the windows at the end of the book the distinction between pig and human cannot be seen, and the final rule gets changed to "All Animals are equal, But some are more equal than others.""
