"This is a great book. The author tells us what the Crusaders did against the Muslims, but shows no one is perfect. I dislike the teenage reviews in Indonesian which are critical of this book. I was a bit disappointed at first as I expected the sequel of book one."
"Ibn Yakub, a Jewish scribe, is hired by Salah al-Din (Saladin) to record his life. The story follows Salah al-Din from his rise to prominence in Cairo, to Damascus and Jerusalem. He wants to take back Jerusalem from the barbaric Crusaders. Salah al-Din's story is drawn from history, but the author includes a fictionalized account of women in Salah al Din's harem. The result is a series of interconnected stories with chivalrous behavior, earthy humor, passions and human frailty.
The author, Tariq Ali, has a lyrical style that is easy to read and he is an excellent story teller. This is the second in a historical quartet that tells the story of the clash between Islamic and Christian cultures."
