"Love him. Live his rules. Loved reading the book. So why only three? Because his approach isn't realistic. So much of his stories are about field trips. Home visits, cool. Home baked goods, sure. But all the field trips? Besides all the time and incessant fundraising, field trips aren't necessarily life changing. I went on a dozen of them or more in my public education, and I goofed off a lot. Not manners-wise, but I am not sure of their "value-addedness." Also, he taught an elementary east coast class--probably no more than 30, probably closer to 25 kids in a self-contained room. Out here in San Diego, as a middle school teacher, I'd have to make arrangements for 175+! His rules are mostly common sense, how-to-be-a-good-person rules. Love them and love that he points out these need to be explicitly taught."
