All Janey Wilcox wants is to be on top. Climb up the social ladder and become Manhattan's elite. However, in NYC, its not as easy as it seems and no one is ever good looking enough, rich enough, or talented enough to stay atop the social ladder. Many unexpected forces in the end, after many problems occurring, threaten to bring Janey down. Will she achieve her dream of reaching the apex of the social hierarchy or will she fail miserably?
-Personally I disliked this book. Janey Wilcox is as unlikeable as vegetables are for little kids. Her attitude and narcissism just make her unpleasant to read about and I just felt as though she was a complete train wreck, which is really what kept me reading, I couldn't look away.. I don't recommend this to anyone. If you're interested, I'm warning you, look for something else more educational or at least more entertaining."
The characters were poorly developed. The plot was silly and repetitive. The diction was not at all creative, and the writing was long and drawn-out.
Also, the edition I read had a publishing error and was missing a 30 page chunk of the book, but had a double of a different 30-page chunk.
Reading this was a waste of time and effort. Chicklit is supposed to be light and fun, but I really had to plow through this novel and force myself to keep going."
"And....she's back to her terrible choices. :-) Since I loved One Fifth Avenue so much, I thought I'd pick up another Candace Bushnell book. Bad idea. Right from the beginning I knew I wasn't going to like this book, but i pressed on, because it's not like me to not finish a book. I think the biggest problem with this book was the characters. The storyline was pretty terrible itself, don't get me wrong. But I found myself hating the main character a lot, and it's extremely difficult to make it through a whole book, especially one without an ending, with a character who has no redeeming qualities. I don't recommend reading this one."
"I read a lot of reviews on here before I read this book. I was almost talked out of reading it because they were so negative. But I had already bought it at goodwill, so I went ahead and read it.
The character this book is based on is in fact a horrible, shallow, nasty person, but I found myself liking the book anyway. Even if it was ridiculous and I couldn't believe what was being said, I kept on reading, and wanting to read more.
Yes, she's horrible, and no, I am not like her, but at the same time, I felt sorry for Janey Wilcox, and I wanted something better for her. I wanted her to succeed in the end, because she needed to do so on her own, and not because she married someone great."
