About this title: Like the game of baseball, life is quirky and unpredictable, as Shane Hunter discovers in the spring of his sophomore year. Suddenly and without warning his life of privilege is turned upside down--and just as suddenly, life begins to seem utterly without fairness or purpose to him.

"This YA fiction does not disappoint, even if you're not a baseball fan. Within a few pages, the main character's father is arrested during the character's baseball game. Things go quickly from bad to worse as the main character's family is stressed, and he has to deal with the repercussions of acting out. There was very little "down time" with this book, so struggling readers should be engaged from start to finish."
"The theme of this book is fiction. Shane the main character is a high school closer for their baseball team. He is one of the top players and loves winning. But his life is about to take a turn when his dad is accused of a crime. Nothing is the same in Shane's life and he feels that he doesn't want to play baseball anymore or if he even feels that he can. But Shane overcomes this incident and recovers and is back to playing baseball.
The conflict in this book is man vs. self because he is trying to overcome something that is happening in his life. What has happened has effected him tremendously and he is trying to battle against himself to overcome this and play baseball again. One motif is love conquers all. Due to his love and passion for the game and his dad, Shane is able to overcome his fears and play again.
The author writes in a 1st person perspective. I would recommend this to any sports fanatics especially baseball fans because this book is all about baseball and why people love to play it. It has a good plot and a great ending. I give this book a 4 out of 5 because when i read the first chapter i was already hooked into the book and couldn't put it down. So all you sports fanatics pick up this book and read it because it's one of the books you will fall in love with the moment you start to read it."
"After a boys dad is arrested, the family future is put into jeopordy. After realizing the arrest is to much for him the dad commits suicide. Now this boy must learn what is important to him, baseball. Carl Deuker takes readers on two amazing baseball filled seasons."
