"This is a good book to read for the newly diagnosed, or for someone with a loved one newly diagnosed looking for general information. It is well-written and easy to understand. I have a couple of criticisms about the book, inasmuch as one can critique an author a few years after a book has been published! Number one, she gives her own non-medical opinion about which diseases are REAL auto-immune disorders and which are not. Given that she is not an MD and has only one of the myriad of diseases she discusses, I find this ridiculous and laughable. I am sorry, but she is NOT an expert on all autoimmune diseases and certainly NOT qualified to decide which diseases are REAL and which are not. Unfortunately for the author, this created quite a credibility problem for me and I read the rest of the book with a slanted eye, if you will. Secondly, she spends an awful lot of time discussing herbal remedies, but doesn't discuss in depth a lot of other natural remedies available to people today. She certainly seems to know what works for HER with her autoimmune disorder, but she is unfortunately, not that well versed on other diseases and treatments available today. Perhaps she will be more careful the next time she decides to write such a book and do more research and speak to more medical experts for up-to-date information and more well-rounded presentation. Might I suggest that she gather people who are experts in all of the diseases she covers and have each of them write about one disease so that we get the best information out there without the author's personal biases? The end product will surely be a better read."
"Dealing with chronic health issues - and with chronic pain and nerve damage - has been a pivotal time in my life. Despite everything I have learned about my physical condition during the past six years - this one book proved the most beneficial. It presented specific symptoms, treatments and explanations regarding the course of disease in a clear and easy-to-understand way.
Thank you, Barbara, for recommending this excellent read!"
"Well, I sort of finished it, I read as much as I could. A very informative book, and yet, as I applied it to myself I got so very depressed. I fit so many symptoms, that even on days that I feel fine, I now feel sick. I probably have 5 autoimmune diseases by using the symptom list. That just can't be right."
