About this title: Thinking of bringing a Golden Retriever into your life? Let the About Pets: Golden Retriever book help put you on the right track toward having a happy, healthy, and long relationship between you and your Golden Retriever.
About Pets: Golden Retriever is an ideal guide for the first-time pet owner. It's filled with practical information on how to feed and care for your Golden Retriever and includes important facts about the different phases in a Golden's life, tips on the relationship between Golden Retrievers and children, and general upbringing.
"Golden Retriever is a thin guide that hardly covers "everything you need to know," as the subtitle would suggest. Rather, it provides just an overview of the breed, along with some common sense care and feeding advice. To their credit, the editors announce right away that the book is not intended to be complete. They should also warn us about forthcoming gems such as: "To mate a (female), you need a male." Really? Startling! But wait, there's more: "You could simply let her out on the street and she will quickly return home pregnant." Are you kidding? To be fair, there is some good material in here, it's just very general. A handy list of websites inside the back cover is quite useful, and there are some nice photos, making this a fun little book to flip through. But aside from those photos and the kennel club specs, it could be about any breed, and is, even then, just too light on the details."
