Stiglitz hopes to explain reasons why globalization has engendered the hostility of some. This book holds no simple formula on how to make globalization work, but ...

"Reading this one was a consequence of "The Shock Doctrine". While Naomi Klein opened my eyes, Stiglitz gave me a report from the inside and, yes, the truth seems really ugly!
What lowers the quality of this book, is the fact that Stiglitz makes himself sound quite a bit like the nasty little boy in kindergarten who, after having participated in the "dog's fight" (when the grown-ups show up), runs around shouting: "I'm not to blame! I'm not to blame! The bad boys did it ...""
"Well thought out book, but you really only need to read the first 50 pages or so, the book mainly consists then of just different examples of the IMF doing something wrong to support his assertions"
"Excellent book revealing the shortcomings of the IMF and World Bank in terms of competence, transparency, accountability, ect. ect. and how their ill conceived policies stifled rather than helped emerging economies."
"Stiglitz insider's perspective and description of the IMF and World Bank is bothersome. Although, Stiglitz uses very politically correct dialogue throughout the book, he consistently notes many of the problems that go beyond negligence in these two organizations, with negligence effecting millions of the world's poorest people. This book was also useful in understanding some of the basic macroeconomic and finance related problems we are facing in our nation today and how certain policies, including a bailout, may or may not create positive change."
