About this title: While the Thirty Years War rages on, a new force emerges in central Europe - the Confederated Principalities of Europe. This is an alliance between King Gustavus of Sweden and the West Virginians, led by Mike Stearns, who were hurled into 17th-century Germany by a mysterious time warp.

"Second in the series, I enjoyed the alternative history a little more having a much better idea of what the actual history was this time out.
Just a rollicking genial great yarn. The historical aspects seem to be reasonably accurate. Some of the down-time characters have more up-time culture mores than is probably realistic but hey, that's a minor point in a good story. Any book that makes me laugh, makes me cry and makes me want to find out what happened to - is a great read in my book.
I cannot WAIT to see what Oliver Cromwell does in this timeline. And I think Richelieu has designs on the New World......"

"I wanted to like this book much more than I actually did. Nothing wrong with the writing, per say, but it was just a real slog to get through. Very little action, just a ton of politics and some intrigue. Would probably be far more interesting with a strong background in 17th century European history: certainly my husband appreciated it more than I did. Then again, my husband could have explained the causes and outcomes of the 30 Years War before reading this book! :} Things started happening at the end, though, and the sequel ("1634: The Baltic War") is starting out much more excitingly"
