About this title: George Weigel traces the evolution of the Pope, from Karol Wojtyla, a pastor born and educated in Poland, to John Paul II, patriarch and most visible representative of the Catholic Church. He has served as pope for over twenty years and through some of the most remarkable changes within the church and in society at large--both of which have fueled his endorsement of traditional Catholicism and his intense participation in world affairs.

"one of the most revealing books i have ever read. confirmed my love and admiration for possibly the greatest man of the 20th century together with Gandhi"
"Marvelous biogragphy, exhaustive and well written. George Weigel is an astute, if conservative, observer of things papal and matters Vatican. This is a wonderful guide to an astounding Papacy."
"This was an excellent biography of Pope John Paul II. I haven't read any other John Paul II books so I don't really have anything to compare it too, but I would imagine this is the most comprehensive biography available. It was amazing to see how much impact he had on the entire world throughout his pontificate, and I also learned a lot about the Pope's role in the church. It was a really long book and it could get a little dry during some of the historical parts, but overall I thought it was a great book."
