About this title: The true story of a wealthy female doctor who killed two of her children and tried to slowly poison her husband. A noted true-crime writer, Ann Rule shows how the doctor's relaxed manner, especially during her interviews with the police, disguised her long descent into alcoholism and prescription drug addiction, as well as her tendency toward dramatic mood swings.

"I love the psychology of otherwise run-of-the-mill people who decide to murder. (I'm always looking for that untraceable poison; this book comes close)"
"An interesting and tragic story: lives torn apart by rage, culminating with a deadly fire and the ensuing court case. It made national headlines in 1995-96, but I don't remember hearing about it. At the end of the book they mention another news item that made headlines near the same time: a mother cat that entered a burning building seven times to rescue her kittens and ended up blind but alive with all the kittens. I remember that headline. What does that say about memory?
I enjoyed the book (my gruesome side comming out), but there is a lot of language in it (the mother of the family had a foul mouth, and the book quotes her word for word... sometimes unfortunately)."
"Good book. Wife goes from wealthy to a murderess of her 2 kids all in the name of revenge of her husband divorcing her. She burns down the house with her 3 inside. 1 made it out the other two died along with the family pets."
"FINALLY FINISHED IT AFTER ABOUT 3-1/2 YEARS!!! What I say next has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the quality of this book, because it's quite good. I love the way Ann Rule brings all of the elements of these stories and makes a cohesive, illuminating tale out of chaos.
Anyway, to the unbelievable laziness in my reading it: this has been my "waiting book", in my truck at all times, ready to give me something to do in the numerous waiting situations. Well, it's been my "waiting book" since sometime in 2006! I used to read it waiting for my son to get out of school, practice or whatever; I read it in the doctor's office, though he doesn't make me wait very long; it's kept me company at football games and wrestling meets, between the action.
Obviously, I'm in no hurry to finish it. But it is NOT one of those books I just stubbornly will not stop reading even though it sucks--it really is good. Just thought you might get a giggle out of that. :)"
