"The team in charge of cover design for my edition might have been on drugs, but the text itself deserves its place as a classic. I never read _White Fang_ in school, so I'm glad that my husband's trip down memory lane convinced me to give it a try. Punctuated by moments of good old action and adventure, _White Fang_ is also an amazing portrayal of the Arctic wilderness and animal psychology. London explores White Fang's emotional and mental development without making it unnaturally anthropomorphic. As long as you can handle a bit of heavy-handed nature/nurture philosophy and a story in which the animals are more present and well-rounded than the human characters, _White Fang_ is an incredible read."
Y frases.
"Ahhh. Jack London and his wonderful wolves. This book is even better than Call of the Wild, but I didn't have a Great Illustrated Clasic of this one, so it doesn't have the same memories. Although I did read this book probably 5 or 6 times in elementary and middle school. I like this story better than Call of the Wild. White Fang is a Beast! I know dogfighting is cruel, but who can help but cheer him on when he's beating everything that's thrown at him? Tortured superhero of the dog world. I want a dog just like White Fang. Smart, loyal, wolf-hybrid that can stand up to anything in a fight and win! Sorry, but I do get sort of excited about this book. It's so wonderful. Read it! See, Call of the Wild is mildly depressing. This has the complete opposite storyline of Call of the Wild, and it is fantastic. I think I just may have to read it again this summer. I can't even tell you how much I love this book! I tell you, it's this wolf fettish I have. I don't know where it came from..."
"This book was very depressing. It tells about how a puppy wolf who is 1/4th dog comes to be owned by humans. He is beaten into submission by his owner and by the other dogs in the pack, but because he is so intelligent he learns to fight back with the dogs and becomes a threat. His next owner tricks is first owner to sell him for whisky, and his new owner uses him as a fighting dog. He is either always in a cage or lokced up with a chain. He becomes a vicious fighter and hates everyone and everything. In his last fight he gets put up against a bulldog. The bulldog latches on to his neck and was close to killing him if it hadn't been for Weedon Scott who steps in and prys the bulldog off of him, and after giving his owner and partial beating, he forces the owner to sell White fang to him. Scott and his dog trainer discover White Fang's intellince and decided to try to be friendly to him instead of beating him to comply. Scott goes out and sits on the ground and talks to him and throws meat for him and eventually gets him to come over and pets him. White Fang goes from hating every thing and starts to learn to love his new master. Scott was returning home to California and was afraid to take White Fang with him, but when White Fang jumps through a window and chases him down he has no choice but to take him. In the end White Fang saves Scott's famiy from an escaped convict who was out to kill Scott's dad because he was a judge. From the injuries White Fang recieved from fighting the convict he was close to dying, but from professional help he survived. It ends with White Fang discovering his new puppies with the Scott's female Collie and they climb all over him as he lays there content. I loved the ending, but probably wouldn't read it again. I read it just because I had it."
