"Very interesting true history...a bit graphic for my tastes though. It got into the gritty details of the wounds and ailments of the prisoners often. I found myself getting queasy and having to put the book down and take a book for a bit."
"An excellent read about courage and compassion. Colonel Ruby Bradley is still the most decorated female veteran in our military history. American nurses on the front lines in the Philippines during WWIItrying to care for the wounded. Eventually the are forced ino the jungles and try to create uniforms out of old pilot flight suits, so as not to be seen in whites. Eventually retreating to Baatan and Corregidor and finally being captured. As POWs the nurses continued to band together and nurse the ill men, women and children for close to 3 years before being freed. I thoroughly enjoyed the history of this inspiring true story."
"This is the story of the nurses who were captured by the Japanese on the Phillipines and how they survived. It's interesting and revealing in many ways. I would have liked a little more side history about the war, but it was really written as a nurses' history and does that well."
"Amazing!absolutely amazing. This is the story of the nurses that were trapped at Bataan and Corrigidor when Japanese forces invaded after the attack on Pearl Harbor. They spent three years as prisoners of war and their story is, in the word of the author, "made remarkable by history and ennobled by suffering and love, with lessons on loyalty, obedience and sacrifice.""
