About this title: WALKING began as a lecture entitled "The Wild," which Thoreau gave at the Concord Lyceum on April 1851. The lecture was a success, and he delivered it on several subsequent occasions. Finally, it was published as an essay in the Atlantic Monthly not long after Thoreau's death in 1862.

"This book is not for everyone, but if you are the type of person who can pack lunch and head for the woods to lose your self and the "wonderful life" you will relate.
I read parts of this book weekly it is by my bed side."
"I guess this is interesting but I found it not to my taste. It has a lot of information world wide for that time frame. It talked a lot about the woods and walking in nature but didn't really talk about nature. I expected more of a link with nature and it seemed more talking about one should spend more time walking but didn't really go into walking; at least I didn't think he covered it well."
