"This authentic biography was such a realistic and informational picture book that it won a Newberry Honor. It starts with the events and signs leading up to the eruption of Mount St. Helens including maps, photographs, and charts. It describes the blast and eruption with people's reactions and photo's of the engulfing smoke of ashes. The photo's do a phenomenal job of allowing the reader to get a real feel of what actually took place and the damage that it created. The story finishes with the life of a volcano which is very informational for a teacher to use when describing volcanoes to their students in the classrooms."
"We moved to Washington state 3 months after the eruption. I remember as a kid being jealous of all the kids who had their own collection of ash taken from their front yards. What a weird thing to be jealous of."
"I found this book very interesting. I thought that it was researched very well. I also thought that the facts about how the wildlife came back were done very well. If only I was more interested in volcanoes. :)"
