"I read the first few chapters of this for work... I enjoyed it, though I probably won't ever get back to reading the rest. Mr. Jordan has an interesting life story and he shares several moving and provocative memories."
"Previously I only thought of Vernon Jordan in the context of hiring Monica Lewinsky. This book is an informative and touching look at Jordan's accomplishments during the Civil Rights era. Jordan begins his autobiography by providing a personal and poignant look at the South prior to the civil rights movement: the racism he and his family faced. He also touches on the value of reading and the importance of education. The middle of the book recounts Jordan's subsequent participation in the Civil Rights movement in various capacities. Although I thought the beginning started very strong, I am currently trudging through the last quarter of the book."
"It took me a while to read this. I scooted through the first half, which was a touching, fascinating look at growing up educated and black...and that was just the intro. His struggle between the expectations of two cultures is very interesting.
Unfortunately half way through once he "made it," the book became more of an anthropological look at his employment history. You know early in the Bible where they list all of the bagattin'? AJ wasn't that boring, but close. I'd still recommend the book for the historical significance.
BTW, he doesn't mention much about his friendship w/ Clinton."
