"Saying I liked it doesn't express what I'm thinking at all. This is a powerful book. It's slightly predictable to me because as a child I read about William Tell (and watched the short-lived TV show) and read a novel called _Jackaroo_, which has a similar plot (though much less graphic than this very graphic, graphic novel). So some of its very movingness I already experienced. But then, that's why we're supposed to live more than a few minutes--so we can gain experience and then take action on it, right?
Vendetta is not exactly what it's about, either. It's about the character, V, but while on the face of it, his actions look like a vendetta, it's not, exactly.
I hated the very graphicness of this novel; I don't read current comic books because of graphic portrayals of women, and this novel has a lot of them. But then, I also hated the constant use of the name of deity and cant language. It was not, in those senses, a good book at all.
It would not have made the same impression without its earthiness, however; some composting material was necessary for its intended audience. I would guess it is aimed at making young men think. I just wish it offered better options.
I hated the praise of anarchy at the end. V's efforts will only lead to a new era of slavery, because there are no fine upstanding citizens ready to lead in better ways. It's not a hopeful book, because it doesn't give solutions that would actually work in practice."
Salah satunya, adalah "Anarchy is different with chaos. Anarchy is take what you want, but chaos is take what you need." Great words!
"These days when someone tells me to read one of these groundbreaking graphic novels, I am very skepitcal. I liked League of Extrordinary Gentlemen by Moore. And I liked Watchmen...though it had it's faults. V for Vendetta has more faults, and I would sooner consider it a incomplete work than the rest. Getting over Moore's anarchist ideology, it's still a rather heavy-handed. The evil government is of course Fascist, as that is the 'evil government du jour'. This is fine though, but how he does the exposition is not.
Moore has a sixteen year old girl describe the 'Right-wingers and Coorperations' rise to power within her own life story. How many sixteen year old, when asked about their life describe recent socio-politcal history? He should have left it with them taking her dad away...we would have inferred the rest without the typical hippy mantra about how the coorperations are BAD.
However, what follows is an awesome tale. V is enigmatic and frightening for a 'hero' However after the first book this story goes south. Theres too many characters introduced, too much muddled waters. The force of the tale is lost and goes wanders off.
I know it would have cheapened the story to some, but I would have much rather seen these as a monthley serial than the miniseries it was."
"This is great storytelling. I was riveted. I loved V's TV message to London and his dialogue with Justice.
Some of the writing was actually very beautiful. Everything I type about this book ends up being a spoiler because the story was so concisely written. It makes me want to find people who dismiss graphic novels as fluff. YOU AND WHAT ARMY?!!"
