"There are plenty of good children's chapter books/authors out there. Where is the "21st century EB White"? A lover of Charlotte's Web, and Stuart Little, I'd never read The Trumpet of the Swan until last month when I read it to my children, who were rapt as a I read about Louis, the trumpeter swan who had no voice. This book demonstrates forthrightness, responsibility, regret, courage, honesty, fun, admiration, friendship, loyalty, humor and love. Each chapter offered another interesting teaching opportunity. I think my own kids will read it over again, as I did with Charlotte's Web."
"This is the least talked about book from E.B. White's trio of beloved books--a hidden gem. I had never read it until my son and I enjoyed it aloud this month. I loved the dear, grandiose cob, whose flowery speeches were a delight to speak, though they were always interrupted by his practical-as-salt wife. Louis' adventures were truly fun to read about, with just enough suspense that you never were sure they would end well, and I loved the things they taught my kids about geography, music and life. It was a charming story of honor, love and redemption."
"I read this book to my kids at bedtime over a few months and I found kind of disappointing although my kids seemed to really like it. It's imaginative and has a few good characters (my personal favorite was Louis' dad), but I have several complaints: 1) The "romance" with Serena REALLY irritated me - not only was there nothing redeeming about her other than her looks, it was ridiculous that she "blew off course" while in Montana and just happened to end up at the Philadelphia zoo. 2) I had moral issues with the fact that he agreed to give up some number of his future offspring as "sacrifices" to the zoo (I know, I know, I am taking this way too seriously) 3) It feels kind of disjointed - the overall plot doesn't hold together very well 4) It lacks the emotional connection and wonder of a book like Charlotte's Web which is a true masterpiece"
"The protagonist of this book is Louis. Louis is a trumpeter swan. But he is different from the rest of his family, he cant make a joyful trumpet noise. Louis has 4 brothers and sisters. Theres this other swan that Louis likes, her name is Serena. He cant get her attention because he cant trumpet.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading. This was a good a book to read and it was fun as well.
If i were to rate this book out of ten, i would give it a seven. This was an above average book."
