About this title: In the tradition of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, the author of the highly acclaimed The Winter People tells the moving, searing story of the betrayal and brutal dispossession of the Cherokee Nation. "(A) beautifully written and emotionally mature book . . . a must".--New York Newsday.

"I could not finish this book. It is written in very stilted language, is not at all engaging. While this is a very interesting and poignant story overall, the book itself is not easy to read."
"This book was such a strange mix between historical narrative, storytelling, and fiction that it was choppy and hard to read. While the history is fascinating and well researched, the book didn't read easily. Sometimes I had a hard time figuring out how Ehle tied the short personal biographies into the larger historical framework he was working in. I think the book is enlightening but it reads more like a college text."
