About this title: In this final part of the trilogy, we follow Titus, now almost twenty, as he escapes from the Castle, flees its oppressive Ritual, and becomes lost in a sandstorm. Helped by the owner of a travelling zoo, Muzzlehatch, and his ex-lover Juno, Titus ends up stranded in a big, bustling city. No one there having heard of Gormenghast, the general consensus is that the boy is deranged, and with no papers, he's soon arrested for vagrancy. But there are a few people who believe in his story, or at least who are intrigued by it, and they try to help him. And now Titus, the deserter, the traitor, longs ...

"If you like descriptive language, this book is a veritable study in it. The story isn't so much told, as it is described. From the introduction of the first character to the end of the book, it is as much a detailed description of every nook and cranny in castle Gormenghast as it is about the characters in it. For all that, it is very well told. I found it a bit hard to read, but if you can get past the wordiness and convolutions of description, it is a fascinating study in one author's style of storytelling. Interesting, but I probably won't be reading the other two volumes in the series."
"read the first and second a while ago, and finally finished off the trilogy. now i want to read the whole trilogy from start to finish, back to back. Peake's prose is dreamy and psychedelic. alternately enchanting and nightmarish. There's a lot of integrity to his writing, as if the book were an abstract exercise in language unhinged from the constraints of sign and symbol. I give it three stars even though I think I'll end up reading this again just because I feel like its one of those books that grows on you, like some music. The immediate reaction is off-putting and difficult, but over time it becomes comforting and illuminates reality in a way you haven't thought of before."
"I'm not too sure what to make of this. The book rips Titus out of his medieval world and puts him in the realm of mad scientists. But Juno and Muzzlehatch are great characters, even if Titus himself needs a good beating."
