"A historic presentation of Agrippa's three primary works edited with annotation from Donald Tyson.
Keep in mind this is part of "The foundation Book of Western Occultism" series from Llewellyn's Source Book Series. All this means you will be reading historical book and letter writing styles which are more prosaic and liturgical on a high-side or long-winded and detail oriented on the down-side. Depends upon your preference of magical reading.
Agrippa gives classical Greek-debate presentation of the 15-16c. Tyson does a great job of bringing in appendixes to explain items which are "givens" in Agrippa's reference of nature, science, philosophy, and political expediency of the day. Thus elemental concepts of magic from Plato which Agrippa gives a statement from, Tyson gives you sections of Plato to read for yourself.
A great thick book to have as a reference of "clasical" Greek and Midieval magical concepts, it is not a bathroom read to relax with for 15 minutes. This puppy is intended and needs an hour at a time for most folks to read and re-read sections due to its depth and totally different world view then we hold today. Be ready to read, be ready to study, and be ready to change when working with this book."
"Not a bad book inasmuch as it does fill a gap , but oddly illustrated with images drawn from much later sources for - what is it? - entertainment's sake?... You will also have to take Tyson's editing of the text, commentaries and "redrawing of the tables... with no guide... (and) based on a study of their inner logic" at face value (which may or may not be a good thing)... Not a book I would recommend to those who *have* only face value knowledge of the subject, in fact."
