About this title: Sophie is kidnapped from the orphanage where she lives by the Big Friendly Giant (or, the B.F.G.) after she spots him performing his job of blowing good dreams into the minds of sleeping children. Sophie is happy with the giant, who takes her back to Giantland with him, but there are some not-so-very-nice giants who also live in Giantland, and all they want to do is race around the world and eat "human beans." Will Sophie and the B.F.G. be able to defeat the bad giants and protect the people of Earth? Illustrated with b&w drawings.

"I've decided that I want to read along with my kids as they read books for fun/class so I've started with this book which is apparently VERY popular with my son's 3rd grade classmates. My son had finished it and was two new books ahead of me by the time I finally sat down to read it, but he couldn't wait for me to finish so I could talk with him about it. I was surprised the book didn't frighten him at all considering the book is all about giants who snatch children from their beds in the middle of the night while they are sleeping and eat them! It tells me he has matured a lot as a reader in that he appreciates the story for exactly what it is, just a story, and not something he has to believe. I wouldn't have know that about him if I hadn't actually read the book myself.
I like the story for how it takes the reader around the world with these giants who could care less about humans, all except for the BFG. It also gives a child hope that even one small kid can make a difference. Roald Dahl is not an author I would have initially chosen to read because I don't usually care for fantasy, however I like his appeal to kids, especially my own."
"Little Sophie is an orphan. She been has been an orphan every since she could remember. Then one night, during the Witching Hour, Sophie happens to be looking out her window. She notices a very tall dark and lanky figure outsides. She gets curious and goes to the window to have a better look. That's when the figure turns around and looks directly at Sophie. She hoped it hasn't seen her but when she ids being lifted from her bred, she just knows it's the end for her. But when she finds out that her kidnapper is a giant, she is shocked. What's even more shocking is that he doesn't want to eat her, he wants her to help other giants stop eating people like her."
"i loved the bfg as a kid its about an orphan named sophie and one night she wakes up and across the street she sees a giant with a trumpet in a briefcase blowing his trumpet in the childrens room across the street. he sees that she saw him so he has to take her with him. it turns out he is a dreamcather and the shortest of i think 8 giants he is a vegetarian giant, the only vegetable available is a horribly gross pickle called a schnozzcomber i think lol anyways his 7 brothers are all cannibals and love to eat people and they pick on him for eating the pickles nayways sophie comes up with an idea to get rid of the brothers bfg doesnt like them either so he agrees so they see the queen of england and she aranges the brothers to get trapped and fed schnozzcombers for the rest of their life and the bfg becomes the official dream catcher and he and sophie live in a life of luxury the end"
