About this title: Borden's father has lost his job at the logging company due to conservationists' efforts to save the spotted owl. As a result, Borden has sworn to hate all spotted owls forever. One day Borden finds an orphaned owlet on the side of the road. Assuming it is a barred owl, he takes it home and nurses it back to health. Slowly as the owl begins to grow, and long after the entire family has already grown to love him, Borden realizes that his pet is indeed a spotted owl.

"A little preachy, so not a ton of humor, but has a good message presented in a nice way. The book is aiming at preserving old-growth forests, and watching out for endangered species."
"This book is about a boy named Borden who's dad lost his job as a logger because the government wanted to save the Spotted Owls homes. Borden and his dad Leon hate the spotted owl now because its's because of the owl his dad doesn't have a job anymore. Borden finds a owlet and can't just not take it home so he does. His dad gets in a punch fight and gets a ticket. He doesn't want to pay it off so he comes home and uses the owl as proof that loggers still love animals. Then he doesn't notice that The owl Bardy was not the type of owl he really thought he was. Read the book to find out what they do to Bardy once they find out he's the owl that made Leon, Borden's dad lose his job."
"There's an Owl in the Shower presents both sides of a town's dilema about jobs and the environment. It is not only about owls, but kids, salmon, rivers, logging, laws, and the economy.
The book begins with a grabber; Borden goes out to shoot an owl because he is furious about his father losing his job."
