"Ugh. Challenging read indeed. Some have compared it to Joyce, but the fizzy, pun-filled slangy tone along with the irresistible urge to digress on the part of the author reminds me more of G. V. Desani's All About H. Hatterr. The usual caveats about reading in translation surely apply here. Despite the many difficulties with this, there are many darkly comic scenes. Don't read it for the plot; luxuriate in the digressions and the interactions between the baffled cops and the knowing underclass."
"Extraordinary book - a philosophical novel that flirts with being a police procedural but ultimately can't be bothered - a whodunit in which you, in fact, never find out who did it. Meanwhile, the density and poly-linguistic character of the writing flirts with Finnegans Wake and the number of words that are unknown to me in English (courtesy of the ubiquitous William Weaver's translation) boggles the mind as to what they could be in Italian. Quite unlike most other things you have read."
""Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.""
