"I only perused the chapters - many I found seemed to hold opinions of parents from the dark ages. Perhaps I'm further evolved than I hoped. I had wanted something that might give me more insight into what it is like to be gay, and how to be helpful in areas of dating. Should the advice I give my daughter on dating be the same whether opposite or same sex dating? I still don't know. I guess looking through this book I can be grateful that much of it doesn't apply to the way we feel about the issue.
Written in 1996, I guess I still expected the views of the parents to be more up to date. Maybe it is, and it's just me who isn't all that chagrined at the idea of having a gay child. What I read was more shocking than helpful - that parents who had raised and loved a child could simply turn their backs on them, blame themselves or the media and walk away.
Maybe this book IS helpful to parents who just can't even imagine homosexuality is real."
