"How can I even think about commenting on Mill's Subjection of Women? It has proven its importance over the years by simply lasting. What I can say however, is that if women think they have it rough now, read this! John Stuart Mill logically lays out one of the finest equal rights argument for women. I can't help but think that his companionship with Harriet Taylor (a woman whose intelligence and strength he greatly respected and who helped define his philosophies) was the inspiration he needed to change the way women were treated in a time when it was thought women had smaller brains. Mill puts that theory to rest real fast!"
"much better than what i was expecting. i don't recommend reading it on your lunch hour unless you want to spend your entire afternoon at work hating on the patriarchy."
"Although I understand that Mill wrote about an unpopular sentiment at a time when women were thought to be less than inferior to men in all aspects of life, I still found Mill's opinions to be too similar to those of the typical 19th century man to be all that controversial or enlightening. I hope that that mainly is because he tempered his arguments so that his essay could be published at all, but his generalizations and "proofs" make me believe otherwise. Also, the narrative is terribly repetitive, and the huge sentences and paragraphs are at times difficult to follow."
