About this title: The Duke of Hawthorne is a cynical, blase, sophisticated rake. Alexandra Lawrence is a penniless, practical girl innocent in the ways of the world, but courageous and headstrong. This is the story of their marriage, a battleground of tempers, society, money, intrigue and jealousy.

"I read the "sequel" before this one but I enjoyed going back to learn about Alex and Jordan.
However, Alex and Jordan seemed really similar to Elizabeth and Ian. Well, particularly Jordan and Ian.
I appreciate that in both of the books the females are extremely strong yet compassionate people, especially for the time period. (That's something about Almost Heaven that bugged me -- I had a heck of a time pinning down the time period. In Something Wonderful it was clear much earlier.)
I can rate books by how drastically they mess with my schedule. For complete inconvenience it's a 10 -- I pulled one of my rare all-nighters. I have forbidden myself to start the next book by Judith McNaught until I've finished all my summer homework. That in itself says something for the book and the addictive quality of the writing. Also, perhaps I'm just going insane, but does anyone else have trouble eating when they're thinking about a good book? As if your body is shutting off its needs to give you more time to read? It happened to me with both of these books, as well as the Twilight saga. Perhaps it's my guilt. Who knows.
If you're into romance and a guilty pleasure read, this book is for you, along with Almost Heaven.
One last note: WHY must romance novels have titles that SOUND like romance novels? To heighten the embarrassment of falling so low?"
