"For those who haven't read this (or reread it in my current case) know that Ferber is not simply making your child cry themselves to sleep. He is a sleep expert and knows so much about sleep habits, etc. This book is great for pretty much any sleep problem.

The current read was for my early riser...learned about sleep phases, too much time in bed, my unrealistic expectations as a parent, you name it. All this on the night Hannah slept 13 hours in a row...which is not supposed to be normal. Hey, he can't win 'em all but he is good. Love Ferber. But read the book, don't just assume he wants your kids to scream themselves silly. He doesn't."

"My 6-month-old had been waking up almost every hour at night for several weeks, so I read this book. It has some helpful things in it, but Ferber's method for breaking bad sleep associations isn't for everyone. We tried it over a few days, and now our baby can go to sleep on his own. However, we did tweak it a little--we picked him up and soothed him if he was really hysterical. I wouldn't recommend "crying it out", but using the same principles and letting our baby "fuss it out" has helped. He still wakes up frequently (and takes stupidly short naps, but that's another story), but much of the time he can go back to sleep at night without much soothing.

I would recommend reading this book and "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth, then using them as a guide to interpreting your own child's behavior, but not expecting your child to behave exactly as the books describe--that will only make you frustrated if your child is not a robot. The two books do contradict each other sometimes, but overall I've found the information in both to be very helpful."

"I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's so much better than "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." I would highly recommend this book to ANYONE with ANY sort of problem with their kids sleeping. It's to the point, easy to understand, and I don't feel like I'm "reading around in circles" like I did with "Healthy Sleep Habits.""
