"After reading S. Klebolds article I decided to read this book that has been on my shelf. As a person who thinks it is distasteful when a parent complains all the time about how awful, bad or lost their child I did not enjoy this book at all. In no negative regards to this sweet girl's family and the situation, I just felt that all this woman talked about was Cassie's "bad" teenage life. I felt she did not due her child's life or death justice. The last chapter or two finally gave me, the reader, what I felt the book was about. All the negative stories about Cassie could have been summarized a lot less than what it was. As a person whose mom use to complain how "bad" I was because I listened to heavy metal or had some crazy friends back when I was 15 I would've been very hurt if my mom glorified all that in a book after my death. I think it could have been written in better taste."
"If somebody had a gun to your head and asked you if you believed in god would you say yes? What would be flashing through your mind? Most of us would say we would, but when it comes to death would we actually stand up for what we believed in?
Would you not know what to say or would you stand up for what you believed in like Cassie did in the book She Said Yes by Mistie Bernall. This book is one of my favorite books. I learned that i need to always be nice to everybody and make sure my last words are always something nice.
Cassie wasn't perfect. But who is? Every morning before school Cassie and her mom always got into a fight, but the morning of the shooting she was being nice. It's like she had a feeling something was going to happen. Before she left for school she gave her mom a hug and said I love you and that was her last words to her mom. I always try to make my last words to my mom or anyone be something nice because you never know when something could happen. Later on that day her parents had heard about a shooting but they thought it was just a prank. Their son had escaped from the school and made it home safe. But days went by with no response from Cassie. They were getting worried. They would tell themselves "she's probably sitting in a closet terrified". Finally after a week the cops showed up at their house and said "we're sorry, but your daughter didn't make it". They were very upset. One of Cassie's friends that saw her get shot told her parents how she got shot. They were very proud that their daughter stood up for what she believed in, but also very sad that she was gone. This book tells you what all she went through before the shooting. It shows pictures of her and her family and friends. You wouldn't think that she had been through has much has she went through.
I would recommend this book to anyone. It makes you realize that you need to always be nice to family and everybody because you never know what is going to happen. You need to read this book to find out what all she went through before the shooting and why the guys only asked cassie if she believed in god and not anybody else."
"i picked this book up at a used bookstore and read it within a day. while i feel for the mother who wrote this and am sorry for the loss of her daughter, i couldn't help but roll my eyes at her condescension. she makes sweeping stereotypes about adolescents with unconventional clothing and hairstyles -- i.e, there is one passage in which she says something along the lines of, "while cassie's new friend had short hair and wore spiked jewelry, something told me she was still nice."
cassie's mother (the author of this book) seems oblivious to how her own suburban american lifestyle, and closed-minded mentality, may have contributed to her daughter's alienation. she also fails to draw any parallels between cassie and her daughter's killers. it seems cassie, eric, and dylan were all the products of a very consumerist suburban american culture, the same culture that produces pop-protestanism, which cassie's mother christens the panacea for all that is haywire in life.
this book exemplifies american alienation at its very worst."
"This was a heart-felt book. I lived in Colorado Springs, CO. at the time of the shootings. It was the first real big school shooting epic. It was such a culture shock and it sent terror waves through the entire state of Colorado as well as the nation. Being so close to it was even harder to conceive the elements of horror. Now, it has become an awful epidemic. It's devasting and so senseless.
I do appreciate the Christian slants to these brave children.
Anybody who liked this book, should really read "Rachels' Tears." This book is even more poignant. Now, she had real true faith, because she lived it. When you LIVE the faith, it is called Emmuna in Hebrew.Hebraic words have a verbal conactation where English has a noun emphasis. Emmuna implies "Doing Faith," While Cassie humanly struggled with God. Rachel was on a totally higher level with her relationship with the Almighty Father. Rachel had developed and continued to have Emmuna. Where Cassie struggled with faith.(Which is the beginning of developing Emmuna.) There is also a disc available, that I recommend viewing after reading the book."
