"A book written in the same mode as "Salt" or "Stiff." It has some good information and nice tidbits, but it doesn't manage to have the same compelling storytelling. The best trivia in the book: she talks to scientists that believe all of the soil covering Caribbean islands (such as Jamaica) is atmospheric dust that lofted up from the Sahara Desert and other locales and settled out, giving the islands a bit of topsoil one grain at a time over millions of years."
"A whole book about the natural history of dust and the creation and evolution of the earth and the life upon it. And it's quite readable and enjoyable - really!"
"Tried to get into this book after reading an interview with the author in th NYT and just couldn't. It was dry as...well, you know. Should have stuck with the nutshell version in the article. Those were the most interesting parts."
