"I ordered this book after going through several Russian language books. I wish this had been one of the first books I used. The style of teaching is direct and reinforced with pictures. It should be simple for anyone with no prior knowledge of Russian to begin basic communication after completing this book.
The material is very good, especially the alphabet and pronunciation guide.
I would recommend this book as a starter for anyone thinking of teaching themselves Russian before going to Russia. There is no substitute for programs that include audio because once you are confronted with the spoken language, reading the words just doesn't compare.
That being said, this is a perfect place for anyone to start."

It doesn't baby you...it gets in pretty detail but does it thematically (as you probably know if you bought it)...like this way we do TRAFFIC...signals, terms, signs, etc...I like the additional little cultural tidbits they drop....
It got me to a decent (read: "Bullwinkle Russian") degree of touristy proficiency...."
