His graphically unforgettable descriptions of social injustice, cramped slum housing, dangerous mining conditions, squalor, hunger and growing unemployment are written with unblinking honesty, fury and great humanity. It crystallized the ideas that would be found in Orwell's later works and novels, and remains a powerful portrait of ...

"I'm still finishing it but I can already say that's it one of my favourites from Orwell. The first half of the book describes the lives of labours so vividly, that I couldn't stop reading. While the rest really exposes economical and political situation in Britain and Europ in XX century. His style may not be as touched up as in his later, more acknowledged novels, but still fasicnates. Definately worth reading."
"This is one of my all-time favorite books. I really need to reread it, because I don't remember the details, but only being captivated by the language and the humanity."
