Scully's seven-year-old daughter, Billy, may have witnessed Jennifer's disappearance, but has been rendered mute by ...

"A man and his wife impulsively decide to move to a house in Ireland. He buys it and awaits his wife and daughter who are traveling to meet him by plane. When the plane unloads, there's his daughter, but no wife. No trace of her- she's disappeared. Partially mystery, but partially an exploration of loss- with an eerie smidge of the supernatural thrown in. I ignored my family to finish this book!"
"Was written really well in the brilliant style you come to expect - and want - from Winton, BUT, felt like I'd wasted my time when you get to the end of the novel and find absolutely no reference to what actually happened to Jennifer!!"
"The riders: who are they? Are they real? And just what, exactly, do they represent?
To me this was a riveting story, told in brilliant prose that engaged me until the mysterious end.
Like Skully, the protagonist of this novel, author Tim Winton is an Australian, but the story begins in Ireland, where Skully is repairing a small house in a small village, while his wife, Jennifer, and seven-year-old daughter, Billie, are in Australia arranging the sale of their house there. When Billie arrives at the airport without her mother and (temporarily) speechless, Skully embarks with her on a search for Jennifer through several European countries in which they all have previously lived: Greece, Italy, France, and the Netherlands."
"Disturbing Book. Great Read. Tim Winton is a genius writer. This is my 2nd Winton and it flows beautifully. An addictive read that takes you into the hearts of a once whole, but now broken Father & daughter. I hated the end & got angry. But I will always come back for more Tim Winton."
