"Nouwen delves deep into the parable of the Prodigal Son, and into the painting by Rembrandt showing his return. Nouwen also reflects on how both have influenced his life, and how the painting and his meditations on it opened new inspirations for him.
My only complaint is the quality of the reproduction of Rembrandt's painting on the cover. It is too dark, and one of the figures is completely lost in the upper left corner in the dark. Nouwen refers to her in the book, and I had to find an online copy of the painting to see what he was talking about. But this complaint is minor--the book is absolutely inspiring in many ways."

I didn't mind reading his Catholic "voice". Any Christian will benefit from this book. It is written without the cultural language of any one denomination. The ideas are golden."
