About this title: Jeff Winston is surprised to wake up as an 18-year-old student, considering that he is 43 and has just died. It seems that he has been given a second chance, a chance to do everything differently. And for another twenty-five years, he does just that, until his death at the age of 43. Waking up in college again, Jeff realizes that he is a replayer.

"A client recommended this book to me and said it was such a satisfying read he had read it 5 times. I was unsure as I started but thought it was a fun read, and have passed it on already to friends."
"Now this is how you do time travel fiction. (Are you listening, Time Traveler's Wife?) The story of a man forced to live 25 years of his life over and over and over again could get tedious. And yet, every life Jeff Winston lives is unique, well developed, and filled with fantastic characters--Jeff counts five different women among his lady friends, and each of the five are brightly sketched and quite memorable. The only tiny criticism I have is that the first life takes an awfully long time, and then some parts of subsequent lives get glossed over. But it's all worth it in the end. Everything that happens to Jeff has to happen in order for him to complete his journey, and every detail fits together beautifully. One other minor related note: the other main character does not show up until halfway through the book, and hence the two halves feel like two different books. And I do wish that the purpose, or the source, of the "replaying" had been explained, at least a little. Overall, liked it a lot, couldn't put it down, interested to read more of Grimwood's stuff if his other books have as good a concept as this one."
"I have to say that this book is even better than I expected. I don't think everyone I know would like it, but the author makes an amazing exploration of the idea and evolution of the character as he is redeposited into his 18-year-old self, time and time again. Taking back with him each time, new lessons, new purposes, sometimes merely new binges for self-destruction, but typically new approaches to living that life...
I enjoyed how the author revealed more and more about Jeff Winston each time he dies. Characters I didn't like much the first time, I sometimes grew to love, others I continued to dislike. I even really disliked the main character for one or two of his incarnations, although I understood that he was feeling quite a futility with his existence. No matter what he did to try to make the world a better place (i.e., try to prevent the assassination of JFK) it would happen regardless. And then he finds others like him... But like usual, I'd hate to give away too much, so I won't expand any further."
"I don't read much fantasy, but for what it's worth, I really enjoyed this book. It's sort of like the movie "Groundhog Day", but instead of repeating just one day, the character relives 25 years of his life and then dies again on the same day/time and then starts over again...but he still remembers everything that happened to him in his prior life. After several cycles he meets another person who is also replaying their life. Great premise, good writing, a bit (just a bit) weak at the end. The story certainly opens for discussion the concept of how much we can change what it going to happen and, if we can change things, what subsequent events will also be changed.
The story stakes place between Spring 1963 and Autumn 1988. So if you could prevent the assassination of JFK, what other events would that trigger? Or if you could bet that the NY Mets would win the World Series in 1969, what would you do with all of your winnings?
