"I enjoy the books where Frevisse is out and about the world more than the ones where all the action takes place in the priory. There are always more characters to meet and it allows for much more action. One specific scene stands out for me. When Anne Perryn first notices the measles rash on her son Colyn, she fears it might be plague. Colyn's father starts to go to them, but Anne immediately yells for him and the other two children to stay away. Frazer explains that Anne knows it's already too late for herself and Colyn, but Simon, Lucy, and Adam might yet be saved. The somewhat brutal practicality of Anne's actions amazed me. Instead of turning to her husband for comfort, the first thought in her head is how best to salvage the rest of the family."
