"It took me awhile to get into this book. I think I made the mistake of trying to read it all in one sitting, when it really is a good little book to read each night. About halfway through, I really began to enjoy this true story about a boy and his pet raccoon, Rascal.
Sterling finds his family in the wild animals he adopts as pets. His mother died at an early age, his father is constantly away on business, and his two sisters are off living their adult lives. When Sterling's Saint Bernard, Wowser, digs up a four baby raccoons, Sterling catches one and does all he can to keep him safe and happy. Their year together is very endearing."
"Absolutely delightful! The writing is so rich and delicious it's like eating a fine dessert. Sterling North's style reminds me of The Little House on the Prairie Series or of Where the Red Fern Grows. It is considered a children's novel, but I think any adult can enjoy this treasure."
"Rascal is a raccoon who befriends a young Sterling North. Together with Sterling's indulgent father, the raccoon and boy traverse the wilds of Wisconsin, camp near lakes, and watch wild deer and mink. It's a small book that draws beautiful pictures of life in America during the latter part of World War I."
"this was a very amusing story. it talked about a boy and a raccoon and how the raccoon becomes the boys pet. i can't remember how it ends but it is such a cute story. it's pretty funny when the raccoon tries to wash the sugar and it all disintigrates, he never did that again. then he learns how to open the back door and keeps coming in the house at night. this is truly a very cute story."
