"As a big Eleanor of Aquitaine fan AND E.L. Konigsburg fan, how did I miss this book all these years? I liked the spin she put on some of the characters, but in general, there wasn't anything new here for me. It would be a nice introduction to the period for someone who wasn't familiar with that part of history."
"Loved this--except for the frame. The subjects of Heaven and Hell are a bit serious for this kind of light treatment. The book does have lots of fascinating historical narratives. What interesting times Eleanor of Aquitaine lived in! But some of it comes across as "telling" instead of showing. Makes me want to read more of the history."
"The life of Eleanor of Aquitaine as told by three different narrators in Heaven. I picked up this book because I love European History and other works by Konigsburg. I personally enjoyed the book, but couldn't see many children or young adults reading/liking it."
"For a young-adult book about the life of the first Plantagenets, this was pretty good - well paced, interesting for an overview, and not sparing on the general opinions of the time in favor of more PC ideas. William the Bastard is called thus, John is referred to as a pustule and other unpleasant things, Richard is probably lauded more than he warrants, but as a story told from the POV of Eleanor and those close to her that's not terribly surprising. It's a nice bit of historical fiction for kids and people who know little about this period in English history."
