"Books treating genera are generally rare and with Primula, despite their general popularity, there is little current on the market that is not oriented to the casual gardener. PRIMULA certainly fills a niche, giving pertinent information to aid in identifiing and cultivating many of the more often encountered Primula species. Unfortunately, being in its second decade, the books lacks new infos and modern pictures to embelish the descriptions (1993, last edition 2003). Despite the keys to species, certain ID is still difficult, however, the treatment of the various sections allows even the amature to place a plant in the proper grouping, thus increasing ones success in cultivating some of the newer available species.
The chapters on cultivation and evolution of the genus are a wonderful resource, plus the chapter discussing morphology and hybridization.
Certainly a book for the serious gardener that deserves another revision in the next few years. Until then, probably the best resource for the genus currently available. A wonderful work."
