"This is an excellent book that anyone could benefit from reading. It tells the story of a bigoted religious fanatic that learns her son is gay. Sadly, it isn't until after is suicide that the flood gates open for her, and she tests the bible, her faith, and the close mind she has had of "those that are different." She is now a activist for Gay people in hope of bringing about awareness and change to those narrow-minded people that have "closeted minds.""
"I really want to be able to say I loved this book, but I was raised not to lie (unless it's for a really really good reason, like to get out of a ticket).
I love the story, redemption is probably my favorite theme, but the execution I found to be dull. While the topic is extremely touching and one's heart aches for Bobby and his mother, there is a distance in the writing that took away some of the full impact of the pathos for me.
Ultimately I abandoned it because it began to read more like a history text than a person's personal journey. there were some very powerful, inspiring and moving parts to this book, and I think it's an invaluable book/story to have in this world, but ultimately, it just didn't come together for me."
"This is about a boy that is gay and his mother is gowing to make him normall. He goes to live in with his cosion and finds a man that he falls in love with. His mother told he that she whant have a gay soin when he told her so he jops off of an overpass and it kills him. So his mother finlly finds out that it don't mader if you are gay or normall GOD loves you now matter what. So she goes to cort and tells them every thing and said it was her falt. DON'T SAY SINS THE BOY IS GAY THAT I DON'T WHANT TO READ THIS OR WHACH IT YOUNEED TO IT IS A GOOD LESSION THAT GOD LOVES YOU NOW MATTER WHAT."
"Simply one of the most amazing and moving books I've ever read. I cried like a baby. After her gay son's suicide, Mary finds Bobby's journal and discovers the struggle he faced and the role her inability to accept his nature played in it."
