"The most challenging thought-provoking book I have ever read. It really makes you think about how you think! It is easy to say that a book changed your life but I was never the same after I read this. For example De Mello says that 'if you have a problem with someone you have a problem. In essence he's saying that if you hate someone you're hating yourself. The other person doesn't care. In fact he/she is probably delighted to have provoked this reaction in you. A take on Jesus' exhortation that we're to 'turn the other cheek'. \please read it."
"I want to like this book. Many have recommended it and it isn't allowed to be sold in Catholic bookstores thanks to Ratzinger -- so it seemed right up my alley. But I think I disagree with something fundamental in de Mello's philosophy, and I can't put my finger on exactly what. It's true that we shouldn't get too attached to things, but I also think that there is necessity, and beauty, and holiness, in not just letting everything pass through you. I'd love to have a discussion if anyone else reads/has read this book."
"I am currently reading this book. I am deeply moved and scared by what it is doing to my life. It is challenging me to question all aspects of me. It has ment a lot, but it would have a different effect on each person who reads it."
"In the last few years, I've come to believe that my unhappiness is caused by my thoughts, and who knows where they come from? So most mornings I read a section of one of several books that express this idea in different ways. The topic of these books, for want of a better word, is enlightenment. The books are: A New Earth; A Thousand Names for Joy; Awareness; After the Ecstasy, the Laundry; and Experience and Philosophy. When I read them, my anxious catastrophic thoughts about the past and future subside, and my day goes better. Simple as that. Some of the books I haven't finished yet, but I am endlessly reading them. I will post this same review for all of these books."
